Last year around this time, I took Christmas portraits of some children in exchange for a bag full of canned goods for Food For The Hungry of Knox County. This year, I was on maternity leave and didn’t get a chance to do this and I was truly bummed. Now that I am off of maternity leave, I really wanted to find something to give back again when I came across an awesome act of kindness on my newsfeed.
I will be participating in the “The Olivia Act” this coming year.
In honor and memory of the children lost in Connecticut, a photographer began a page called The Olivia Act, challenging photographers across the nation to give away a 30 minute portrait session to a family. This unspeakable act touched my heart and soul in a way I cannot even begin to describe to you. I have two very young children and as loved ones will agree, time goes by way too fast. It’s important to me to remember the VICTIMS of this tragedy. While I pray for the soul of the young man who committed these acts, it is the only acknowledgement I will give him. I want to focus solely on the victims. As a result, I will be participating in The Olivia Act and I will give away one 30 minute session to one family who I would like you to nominate. Send me an email (please do not post publicly) firstname.lastname@example.org explaining why you are nominating them and why you feel they should receive this session.
The family who receives the session will also receive a disc of images for their own use for print and sharing.
The family chosen will be contacted via email, so please include that as well! I’ll be taking them anytime between now (December 19th) and December 31st. Can’t wait to gift a family with these memories that can’t be replaced or taken away! xo
